Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.
It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.
Your One Question Friday is brought to you today by my second daughter. On her birthday the question she wants to ask my blog readers is…
What’s your favorite smell?

Apple pie baking in the oven. It means warmth, comfort, and yumminess all rolled into one.
ReplyDeleteVanilla or hot butter. :O)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to one astute little lady! Did you know that smell elicits the strongest memories of any sense? But of course you did. And thanks for asking this great question.
ReplyDeleteEucalyptus leaves bring back memories of playing with my brother--now in Heaven--and our babysitter's kids in the grove near their home. That smell equals peace, security, fun, and delightful secrets.
May your birthday be full of all of those!
Jen
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteFavorite smell? BABY!!! and chocolate of course.
Do they need an explanation?
Oh and two stroke engine exhaust - it's all about dirtbiking baby!
It's difficult to select just one favorite, but I will say ground coffee. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your daughter!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite smells are fresh baked bread and hot coffee. Mmmm... :)
Spring rain because it smells of new beginnings.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your lovely little gal! There is no way I can decide on a favorite smell! Here's my list: the heady fragrance of lilacs in the spring, the robust aroma of freshly ground coffee, the delicious smell of home-made bread, the delicate scent of a freshly bathed infant, the earthy scent of a just cut spruce tree being set up for Christmas, the ozonated air after a summer thunderstorm and freshly mown grass. Yes, I'm indecisive!
ReplyDeleteSunshine on a fresh cut lawn. Sheets fresh off the line and snuggling deep in their crispness.
ReplyDeleteIt's God's freshness that can never be bottled.
I love the smell of bread. It reminds me of growing up.
ReplyDeleteOooh, great question! For me, this changes practically every day. Probably because I'm pregnant. Normally I love lavender but lately it's anything that smells really fresh or summery. I have one of those tart warmer things from Yankee Candle and I LOVE their new fragrance Lemonade. It definitely makes me think of summer and warmth and fun and family. Happy birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your sweetie!
ReplyDeleteI can't pick one smell. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, lilacs, roses, boxwoods, evergreen, lake Michigan, oh, I could go on all day!
I would have to say: rain, coffee, and my mom's bread baking in the oven.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your girl!
Brownies baking and babies!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your baby:)
Happy Birthday! I have many: sweet babies, soft rain, fresh cut grass, ocean breezes, baking bread, and my hubby:)
ReplyDeleteOoo! That's a tough one. My favorite smell is probably fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Yummm...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Wendy's girl! You have a rockin' mama. :)
Happy birthday to your birthday princess! One of my favorite scents is aloe.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to her!! Hope she got what she wanted:)
ReplyDeleteMy fav smell is cinammon rolls baking.
Brilliant question! SO many possibilities. After much thought, here's my choice.
ReplyDeleteOne year for Christmas, I received a special gift. It is a collection of twelve essential oils made from spices mentioned in the Bible. They are similar to perfume, but they also have medicinal properties, which means they can be used like medicine, to heal. My second favorite smell is the genuine frankincense. Whenever I smell it, I think of the Old Testament tabernacle and temple where God was worshipped. My number one favorite smell is the spikenard, because the smell can last for days, and when I smell the spikenard I imagine that it was the smell that was still on Jesus when He died on the cross, after Mary poured a whole flask of it on Him. Smelling it makes me feel close to Him.
Happy Birthday, sweetheart! Your mommy is a wonderful lady, and I love her very much. Will you give her a VERY *BIG* hug from me?
Happy Birthday to your adorable daughter.
ReplyDeleteGreat question!
My favorite smell is actually hard to explain, but it's when I'm at the beach, and lying on a towel, and the waves are crashing. Go figure??
God bless you all
Hi Wendy -
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you DD!
Just one? Okay, I'll say lilacs because they are linked to springtime.
Blessings,
Susan :)
bread baking. cinnamon doughnuts. summer rains. Hmmm... there are others. Great question.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is beautiful. Please tell her that my favorite smell is really stinky, but I can't help it. It's the smell of permanent wave solution, the stuff that makes hair curly.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is a hairdresser, so I became accustomed to it growing up. After I moved away, I'd walk through the mall and pass by Regis and other beauty salons. The odor of the solution would cause me to think about my mother and the "Steel Magnolia" moments we shared. Her beauty shop was attached to our house. So that smell, as awful as it is to everyone else, reminds me of my wonderful, beautiful mom.
What is your favorite smell?
S. was excited to see so many responses to her question. She's laughing loud with friends at her slumber party now, but wanted to answer Kathy's question.
ReplyDeleteNew socks and candle smell.
Thanks for playing all. This was fun to share my kids on here.

Happy Birthday! I love the smell after a misty rain on an early spring morning. Refreshing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to her!! Cute photo ;D
ReplyDeleteMy absolutely favorite smell is blackberries on the vine on a hot summer day!
Little girls. ;) (Really, I just bathed my two, and they smell like lavender shampoo. Mmm.)
ReplyDeleteSpring air is better than many things. Lavender (see above). That I've-been-working smell on my husband, just before I-need-a-shower. Those might be my favorites.
I extend belated Happy Birtday wishes to a very bright girl. My favorite smell is the aroma of fresh flowers, roses or carnations. If carnations are their freshest they have a very wonderful fragrance. Roses are next. Their scent always cheers me.
ReplyDeleteWisteria.
ReplyDeleteBelated happy birthday to you!
I hope your birthday gal had a wonderful celebration of her special day.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite smell is lavender.
I was going to say the heady fragrance of lilacs because it speaks spring.
ReplyDeleteBut really--a whiff of railroad ties carries me home. We lived on a lake, but the railroad track ran parallel to the road. And they also remind me of Hartwick Pines, a logging museum and the trails and where we used to go every last day of school.
