One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Ready for your question?

Pioneer or Viking?

  1. I wish I could say pioneer - charting new courses, moving gently through the land - however - I think I would be moreo f a viking - fighting to survive - fighting to get what I need, want. love your site. going to read your revealing faith today moment. blessings.

  2. My answer is probably the same as Sarah's. I'd really like to be a pirate... can I be that? I heard Jack Sparrow in my head all day yesterday; should I be scared? :0)

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Pioneer...because they're more peaceful!

  4. pioneer!! We are on a new frontier in our lives right now as we've moved and started seminary. Also, I loved living out in the country for 4 years and I love simple, quiet living! :)

  5. Wow...my first thought was Viking! I think that's kind of scary. I guess it's because I like to fight for what I know is right. Because I have a lot of energy and I want to keep going and accomplishing things. Have a great weekend!

  6. Pioneer! I'm doing all new things in my life right now so this is just more fitting. I just came out of the season in which I was fighting for life (well a peaceful one at least) viking style.

  7. Pioneer - in fact, in a way I was one - coming to Ghana 13 years ago as a young volunteer and single mom. All these years later there are tonns of foreigners and a mall even! But it was great to be one of the first....

Found your blog through a great recommendation - will keep reading!

    Cheers

  8. Pioneer. Never read a book about a viking, but I devoured all the Little House stories.

  9. Pioneer. One of my favorite series is "Little House" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Vikings are too bloody.

  10. Used to be a Viking out there fighting my battles and others, but with age, I've put away all that aggressiveness and become a pioneer out in the wilderness of writing searching for new land and the promise of settling down with the writing of my book and reading others books.

  11. I'm a lover not a fighter, Wendy! Pioneer!

  12. Well I hate to be the "there's one in every crowd" person, but...I have to say both, but let me clarify.
If it were all up to me, I would be a Pioneer...peaceful, making my way in new territories, looking for a nice homested to raise the puplings...happiness and open plains.
BUT I have found that God has different plans for me...and different viewpoints of who He has called me to be. He has me standing up to fight when I have spent my life quiet...He has me charting new waters when I want my feet firmly planted on the ground...He wants me out at sea when the storm rages when I would rather duck under the safety of my husband's arms in the dry wagon.
I hate to fight...but sometimes the fight is needed too.
Have a great weekend, my friend!

  13. Pioneer! More peaceful, exploring new frontiers, traveling in a covered wagon.

  14. I don't think I have enough grit to be a Viking, but I would love the clothes. Pioneer seems safer with less pillaging and all that. :O)

  15. I say a pioneer. They pave the way for others. That is what I want my life to be about. :o)

  16. Pioneer. Vikings seem way too barbaric!

  17. Pioneer. They had it tough, though for the most part they were peaceful. But they ventured to an unknown territory, unknown people, making a living from scratch. Oh, on second thought, a diet of fish doesn't sound too bad!

  18. Actually it depends upon the day! LOL. Some days I'd be the pioneer, courageously exploring new territory with a calm heart. Other days I feel like I'm fighting for every gained inch.

Awesome post, and very thought provoking. Found you on Lazy Writer's blog and I'll follow you. Cheers!

  19. I'd be a pioneer, because I have a huge amount of respect for them. What spunk! What vigor! I don't think I'd want to be a Viking woman with my husband gone at sea all the time. I'd rather be tramping through the prairie with my man, even if it was harder going.

  20. A pioneer woman: rooted in faith and family and the tending of God's earth.

A simple calling, really, and a lesson for us even now, in 2009.

  21. Pioneer, because I prefer mountains to water.
