The Concert

Went to a concert last night.
Quivering chairs.
Body immune or stubbornly ignoring the chill in the air.
Voice weak from yelling my applause.
Lightshow flashing in the confines of my mind.
Registering music.
Absorbing sound.
Came home, checked on kids, and crawled in bed with words floating, mysterious melodious lyrics tunneling through memory and time.

“God saw all that he had made and it was very good.”
Genesis 1:31a

What's the best concert you've been to?

  1. I've not been to too many concerts, but Sugar Ray with The Goo Goo Dolls was awesome, as was Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts. We're thinking about going to a Jars of Clay show this weekend, when we celebrate our anniversary. I think it would be great.

  2. Beautifully said, Wendy. I love the voice yelling the applause. Perfect description of a concert. One of my favorite concerts was BNL because they were funny, but I also enjoyed Creed. Scott Stap is quite a singer.

  3. We often have this conversation in our home, rate the top 3 concerts. It's always so hard to choose, the artists all bring someting so different to the stage. For me, today, it would be Tom Petty, Rolling Stones at Rentschler, and really any concert at Jones Beach, with that stage set on the sea, is just perfect.

  4. Oh my goodness Janna, I saw that concert too! It WAS awesome :) Wendy, does this mean you saw U2 last night??? I get to see them October 6 and I'm SO excited!

Best concert I've been to thus far? COLDPLAY!

  5. Hey, Wendy!!!

Probably the Steven Curtis Chapman/Casting Crowns/Chris Tomlin concert a few years back in St. Paul, Mn. It felt like a night of worship.

I listen to country music and last spring Sugarland/Keith Urban came through. I didn't get to go because I was in India. But I'd love for a second chance to go to that show! Concerts are so fun, aren't they!

  6. Great description! I don't know that I have ever been to a live concert for a celebrity. I really need to get out more huh? Glad you had fun! :o)

  7. Gaither band was probably my favorite. After that there are many. I was fortunate to work at a facility that sponsered concerts and got to see and meet many bands. Willie Nelson, Silver Bullet Band, Neil Young and many more.

  8. Best concerts were Jars of Clay, The Verpipe and Sister Hazel. OH AND Michael W. Smith....any concert with Michael W. Smith is amazing!

I've been to TONS...I even saw Rich Mullens like 4 or 5 times when I was young. At once concert he even let us kids come sit up around the piano by him.

    I LOVE Concerts!

So which concert did you go to?

  9. The concert looked fun. Went to see U2 when I was 17. Can't believe they're still going strong! :O)

  10. Oh, you saw U2? Bet it was am amazing show! The only concert I've been to recently (maybe 5 years ago?) was The Newsboys, and then only because we got free tickets. (We're friends with the keyboard player's parents.)

Back in the day, I saw Duran Duran, Rod Stewart, Tears for Fears. Man, am I old! LOL

  11. Love the post, Wendy! The best conference I've gone to was Michael W. Smith and Third Day (together). Very awesome!

On a side note, I've decided we look alike. Don't you think so? I think we could be sisters or something. :)

  12. I would say Garth Brooks when he was here in LA a little while back. I am not so much a die hard fan BUT my husband is and the fact that we got to be at 3 of his 5 appearances here...well, my husband was in heaven and the crowd was charged UP. Was a lot of fun.

  13. I'd have to say a Billy Joel concert I went to back in the '80s was the best concert I've ever been to. He puts on an incredible show. Of course, he is my favorite artist of all times, so I might be a little biased.

  14. Hmmm, well, I've only been to one and it was Jennifer Knapp, but man, did I LOVE it! So exciting, right?

  15. Took my daughters to the ballet last year. Does that count? Not voice-shattering applause, but definitely edge of the seat fascination!

  16. How fun! I'm so glad you had a good time!

  17. Janna, thanks about the prose and I highly recommend concert going to celebrate an anniversary!

Tess, I think I'd like Creed and my voice still suffers...well worth it.

Joanne, Tom has so many memorable songs. I saw him at a Bob Dylan Tribute years and years ago.

Beth, you know I want to see your favorite! U2 was solid last night. Lived up to expectations.

Kristen, we so rarely go, but yes they are fun. I'd love to be worshipping in a big crowd like that.

Girl in My Own World, that was the first concert we've been to in years (over five) so I hear you.

Donna, Neil Young would be a classic. My husband and I have different taste in music, so I'd go it w/ a friend to that one.

Marybeth, we saw U2. Snow Patrol opened the show. I can picture Rich being that inviting for kids. Some of his music was the first stuff I heard as a new Christian.

Diane, after hearing them, I can believe they are still going strong. Bono sang Amazing Grace...it was beautiful.

Terri, so okay to date yourself. Here it is all the time.

Julie, Duran Duran would have been fun. Tonight I feel old and tired, very, very tired!

Katie, I think we saw that one...it was in KY?? I agree esp. after seeing more pics. of you at the conference. I'll send more in an email. But, yes...I think we look alike and I am flattered to look like you.

Bina, when crowds get charged up like that it makes me think it's just a glimpse of how heaven will be when Jesus comes on stage. :D

Lazy Writer, I have many of his songs memorized.

Jessica, the pics. of you at the conference had me cracking up. I think Jennifer did a duet w/ the dude from Third Day...I remember nursing my baby while listening to their song feeling so blessed.

Jody, ballet counts. Sure, why not. No reason to be picky. :D

Jill, I am too! We need outings like that. It fuses us.

Danyelle, thanks. I liked your shellfish post tonight, too!

Well, there you have it. I'm bushed, tuckered, absolutely wiped out. I'll turn my brain back on tomorrow, but for now I'm shutting down my internal computer.

Sleep like babies. I know I will.
