One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

I don’t know about you, but part of me never grew up and quite absurdly another part was old before I turned ten. The flicker in my cornea sees the world with unabashed hope & potential, taking in the majestic wonderment. The scar above my aorta makes me breathe the world in slowly, less likely to trust.

How about you? Is there a part of you that is young at heart or have you always been an old soul?

~ That leads to the One Question Friday ~
Answer about yourself--Young or Old?

  1. Hmmm-this is a tough one. I would say I am still young--have tons to learn and doubt some days I even will before I die.

  2. More young, immature, than I care to explore. But somehow my kids say I'm old.

  3. Great question! When I was younger, I related to grown-ups better than I did kids my own age. Now that I'm older, I relate to kids better than I do adults. >.< So I guess I age backwards.

  4. Definitely older than my years! Even when I was young, I tried to act and think like I was an adult! I'm sure I convinced my parents that I knew everything!

  5. Wendy: Why did I want to cry when I read this question?

I was forced to grow up too soon when my parents divorced-- I was six. Part of me stayed a little girl, joking to get attention, needing to feel loved and accepted.

On the other heart, I have this jaded side to me that comes out when I am 'poked' in the places where it hurts. Don't know that I've ever analyzed it like this--- leave it to you to help me see a new layer of my psyche, so I can better grow up. Thank you for this, sister sweet.

You won't tell anyone about my secret jaded side, will you? Thanks.

  6. Oh, definitely young! I enjoy my kids so much because I can completely relate to them. We came this close to buying fake mustaches yesterday, but I couldn't justify six bucks on seven mustaches. Even though "the weasel" was really awesome! We may have to go back later this summer...

  7. I'm young at heart. I see so many things with a naivete that sometimes amazes even myself. Grew up on a farm, so maybe I was more sequestered from life. Keeps me more joyful through life's difficult health issues.

  8. Young with a twinge of an 'old' or I prefer timeless heart! =)

  9. My dad loved history so we discussed it a lot at the dinner table when I was a kid. He told the horrible stories of war right along with the pleasant stories. This was during the Viet Nam War, so I also heard some of the current horror stories. I remember thinking it was almost sacriligeous to be having a good time while our soldiers were fighting in a jungle. So, at times I was serious and thoughtful way (old) beyond my peers. I compensated for that with being silly at other times. I still read the grim stories (I teach history in college so I have to!), and still like to joke around to balance it.

  10. Hmmm, I think it depends on the subject, the topic at hand. Sometimes I feel young and sometimes I feel old. Sometimes I feel experienced (older than others) and sometimes I don't. Can there be a middle-aged category? LOL.

    Great question!

  11. I grew up way too old with not much childhood. So I especially enjoy being young at heart now. My kids have given up asking me to act my age.

  12. Well, before my vacation last week, I would have said young, but I'm afraid of roller coasters now. Does that make me old? Seriously, I'd still have to say young. Sometimes that works in my favor (since I write YA), other times it goes against me (since I have to be a mom and not just a friend).

  13. I'm grateful for all of your responses. I tend not to comment on One Question Fridays because I want people to feel as though they can answer honestly without judgment. I do want to let you know I was particularly touched by these responses. I'm reading, I'm learning, I'm loving.

    See you next Friday!

  14. I'd say I'm a "young-un" who's lost many of his childish ways. I exist by hope and protect myself cynically.
