Working Wednesday

I'm concentrating a lot of my time and energy on this new project (I mentioned it the other day and was extremely grateful for the abundance of advice I received about its conception).

I wanted to write up something fun and simple, so what came to mind? A List!

Here are my top 10's (in random order):

Most Engaging Jobs:

  1. Hot Air Balloon Operator

  2. Hospital Chaplain (with a focus in crisis management)

  3. Novelist (Freelance Writer, Journalist, Musical Lyricist, Blogger, Essayist...anything to do with putting words on a page)

  4. Interviewer

  5. Food Critic

  6. Mail Carrier

  7. Firefighter

  8. Youth Pastor

  9. English Professor

  10. Boat Person (is there a job where you can just ride around on a boat all day...a sailor perhaps? That's what I want to do and get paid for it of course).

Most Repulsive Jobs:

  1. Anything to do with Money & Numbers (Accountant, Banker...you get the drift)

  2. Plumber

  3. Administrative Assistant

  4. Assembly Line Worker

  5. Kindergarten Teacher (hey, at least I know my weaknesses)

  6. Model

  7. Flight Attendant

  8. Road Worker/Cementer

  9. Dental Hygienist

  10. Gastric Endocrinologist

For anyone who does the latter 10...I respect you and I feel for you. For anyone who does the first 10...are you hiring (especially for the boat person job)?

What makes your list of engaging & repulsive jobs?

Happy Working!

  1. Of course, I would love to write full time! But for now I squeak in what I can. My God-given duties as a wife and mother and manager of my home are priority at this point in my life. But next to all of that, I absolutely LOVE writing! I doubt that I would ever be completely happy at any other type of job. (I've tried and it hasn't worked!)

  2. I love lists!

I think it'd be cool to join a circus like one of the Cirque de Soleil in Vegas. Not a travelling carny folk circus. Of course, I also think it would be cool to be a marine biologist or zookeeper (until you have to clean out cages).

  3. Jody,
I loved how you wrote manager of your home...it makes it sound so official. :D I'm with you...I'd write all day too!

    Joyce,
I tried to get my mom to drive me to try out for the circus when I was 12. I think she knew I didn't have a future as a tightrope walker. Yes, the zoo...certainly not the cleaning of the cages. :D

    Fun, Fun, Ladies!

  4. Cool blog, Wendy! My top two jobs would be mother and writer, for sure! I also enjoy teaching. :) Least fav job would have to be any sort of cleaner because its my least fav. thing in the world!

  5. I ditto Katie, writer and mother! I'm a payroll manager, and I love my job (stop laughing, I really do!) But my dream job would be to stay home with my kiddos and write books. I might still temp in office jobs sometimes just for the heck of it!

  6. Oh, sorry, and worst jobs? Um... garbage woman... gynocologist (ugh!)... and hamburger flipper for any fast food resturant.

  7. Definitely writing here, too. I find great satisfaction in it, fiction, non-fiction, blogging! Something I've always wanted to do is really learn to play the piano, so I don't know if there's a feasible way to make a living doing so, but it seems like it would be fun!

  8. I love this idea -- making a "bucket list" of dream jobs and vocations! I've been a freelance writer for years (so I do have a dream job, most of the time) but I've also toyed with working in a bookstore, an Eileen Fisher shop, or maybe working full-time as an artist or gardener or innkeeper...
