Quiet, A Change

There’s a lot of noise out there. I’ve made a decision to cut down on the bustle.

I’m moving my thoughts that move trademark to Tuesdays.

After four years of posting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I’m making a significant change.

I’m now going to post solely on Tuesdays.

And I’m excited about it. I want you to be excited too!

Here are some factors that influenced my decision…

It’s a Blog Eat Blog World
There are more blogs now than there are stars in the sky. Okay, maybe not that many. As I pay attention to the fluctuating climate of publishing, blogging reminds me a bit of Britney Spears. Rock star. Rise to fame. Spiraling down. Misunderstood. Makes a comeback with will.i.am. It all makes me want to “scream, and shout, and let it all out.”

My stats are strong and climbing. I love this despite the fact people aren’t commenting around the blogosphere the way they used to.

My plan going forward is to post Tuesday strong. I hope you’ll join me.

I’m Gainfully Employed
Walked in my favorite local coffee shop not long ago with hopes of helping out as a barista. Walked out with the owner creating a special projects position for me that could not possibly supply me with better hours.

The Desire for My Words to Leave an Impact
Sometimes less really is more. Offers more. There’s only so much we can retain in this age of newsflashes, hyper-alert blasts, and brain juggernauts. I’m slowing it down for your sake. And for mine.

My Novels are Hungry Baby Birds
I want to protect how I divvy out my creativity. I love blogging. Always have. I’m confident I still will. But by making this decision I’m showing those squawking baby birds I love them more by responding to their, “Feed me. Feed me.”

Facebook Calls
I’ve made a concerted effort to increase the amount of time I spend interacting with you on my Facebook writer page. I like it. Meet me there.

When was the last time you felt inspired to make a significant change?

*See you Tuesday

  1. Oh my gosh, I almost spewed my coffee on the Brittany Spears analogy. Priceless.

Good for you. Yes, I'm thinking of doing some blogging changes too. Not sure what yet, but something has to give!

  3. I've moved away from my Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule to posting once, occasionally twice, a week to. And I agree with you; it's lovely to have regular interaction with folks on Facebook. See you over there!

  8. Love your heart, Wendy. What you say is true...it is a blog eat blog world these days. I really enjoy blogging just once a week. There's no burn out, and people drop by when they can.

  9. The hungry baby birds analogy is so cute (and spot on). I've recently reassessed my whole focus and reason for blogging, and I am much happier now. I had to take nearly a year away from my blog to understand that I am not on board for the platform ride. I simply want a place to express myself, ponder the hard questions, and make a couple of friends along the way.

Hooray for the new job! Happy Friday to you!

  10. Sounds wise to me, Wendy! I might join you in the once-a-week blogging thing pretty soon. I hate weeks when I spend more time blogging than writing. Yes, and there are so many ways to interact now, blogging doesn't seem quite as important anymore. :) And I'm happy for you with your new job. Sounds cool!

  11. That's really cool about the new job! I'm skipping more blogging days lately, but I'm not very disciplined about it. I feel like I miss so much when I don't get around to others.

  12. Hi Wendy -

    Congrats on the new job!

In December, I sensed the need to cut back on a weekly email update I'd done since 2006, as well as my blogging frequency. Lo and behold, in January I signed with an agent and a publisher.

Perhaps you're being prepared for some major changes. :)

    Blessings,
    Susan

  13. Good for you, Wendy! I've noticed many bloggers are cutting back on quantity of posts for quality of content.

Although I cut back from three days a week to two days, my stats have increased. That proved to me that more is not always better.

I'm happy for you that you have a dream job--and selling coffee no less! How cool--or hot--is that!

  14. Well, Tuesdays is now one of my favorite days of the week.
And I support your decision -- not that you need that!
    :)

  15. I have noticed the same thing...higher numbers than ever and fewer comments. Do you think it's because people are often checking on their phone? Anyway, I've found myself kind of thinking the same thing...I just want to make sure I have something important to say rather than just spewing content that doesn't stick.

Good stuff here, Wendy. Hoping you love your new format. :)
