Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I
choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the
question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance
that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide
an explanation for why you answered the way you did.
It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also
to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.
What
has been your most meaningful interaction or connection via social media?

It surprised me that in answer to your question I thought of several great connections I've made via social media--including you! But maybe the most meaningful one has been a woman I connected with on twitter first, I think. Then facebook. She showed up at one of my book signings and we met in person. From there, we met for lunch, shared even more of our hearts, discovered more we had in common. Now we pray for one another on a consistent basis. Very, very cool connection, all due to an introduction through social media. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have just one. All of the close writer friends I've made--and being led to join ACFW as a result. I feel as if I gained a community!
ReplyDeleteHave a snow-filled (ha, ha!) weekend!
I'm with Jill--I've met sooo many amazing writer friends through social media. Probably the MOST meaningful interaction was meeting Melissa Tagg and becoming her critique partner. :) One of the best friends I've ever had...and all because we both blogged and Beth Vogt kept tweeting her blog posts, so I eventually stopped by and read them. I love how God works!
ReplyDeleteAs far as writers go, I'd say my blog, but then those relationships deepened even more through twitter, facebook and text! But had it not been for my blog, I wouldn't have met them.
ReplyDeleteI've always used facebook to connect and stay in touch with distant family members and friends!
I'm going to totally echo Lindsay here! I've met so many amazing friends through social media...and had some fun and special conversations, some of which I even go back and re-read from time to time. But I'd have to say one of the most meaningful by far was connecting with Lindsay. I honestly feel like one day God said, "Here you go, Melissa. A gift of friendship you didn't even know you needed. Enjoy it." And it's just been so cool! I feel crazily blessed.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think about pioneers...how they loaded up in covered wagons and left families and loved ones not knowing if they'd ever see them again. Whereas today, I have the fun of staying connected to friends literally all over the world...and making new friends I never would've crossed paths with if not for the web. I'm thankful. :)
The most meaningful connections I've made have definitely come from blogging. Facebook was always a place to stay connected to people I already knew - but blogging has opened up a whole new world of people I didn't know existed! And the awesome thing is that the people I've met while blogging are the people I really connect with on a heart level. All of you are writers and you speak the same heart-language as me. It's been very meaningful! I agree with Melissa - it's amazing to be able to stay connected with people all over the world that I would never have met if it weren't for social media.
ReplyDeleteI have reconnected with high school friends from 36 years ago. So awesome to keep up with their lives. Facebook has been great for keeping in touch.
ReplyDeleteReconnecting with old friends and creating new friendships with writers all around the world. :)
ReplyDeleteInstant Messaging is a delight for me. I can have a quick -- hey! maybe that's why they call it "instant" -- conversation with a friend or family member in another state or country. Feel connected. Encouraged. Or I can encourage or pray or even share a laugh with someone else.
ReplyDeleteI love this part of social media.
I will have to say my blogging writer friends, one of whom I have met. I agree with the other person who commented that some of these relationships grow due to Facebook and Twitter. i just recently joined Twitter. I have gotten some contacts through LinkedIn as well.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I've met and connected with people more through comments on my blog and visiting them. If I didn't have that, FB and Twitter wouldn't mean as much.
ReplyDeleteWow. This takes some thought, as do most of your posts (that was a high compliment!).
ReplyDeleteThrough blogging I've connected with writers who've helped me improve my craft, encouraged me not to give up, even one who hosted me and my husband for four days when I attended a writers conference!
I wonder if I'd still be struggling to get my first book published if not for blogging buddies!
This is one reason I host an annual office supply giveaway on my blog, which btw, is taking place now, through Valentine's Day. It's a fun way for me to say "thank you" to you and others who've enriched my life.
Grace and chuckles,
Jen
I can't narrow it down to just one! Blogging has connected me with authors, writers, and readers. Several of them have become very close friends.
