Moving Thoughts Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Weathered antique or spring chicken?

  1. Definitely antique! While I love modern amenities, there is something truly special about an item that has been used and loved by others who have gone before you. And so much fodder for the imagination!

  2. Weathered antique! I love old. My house is covered in it and if not, I make it look that way!

Style, charm and I love wondering about the stories behind every ancient piece. :)

  3. As far as who I am....sometimes I feel like a spring chicken. Brand spankin' new...especially in this publishing biz. But sometimes, on days where I find gray hairs in my head and feel overwhelmed with all there is to do....I get to feeling antique-ish.

  4. I interpreted it the same as Katie...and I'm definitely a spring chicken. I'm the youngest one at my workplace and I feel the assumed inexperience in people's stares. But I try not to let that bother me. :) After all, every had to be a spring chicken at some point!

  5. Weathered antique. Although some days I wish spring chicken. :)

  6. Can I be a weathered spring chicken? I feel quite windblown by life lately, but have no intentions of becoming antiquated! :)

  7. Oh, Wendy, this was an easy one for a change. Weathered antique. Two reasons. One is that I've lived long enough to have a full deck (yes, I'm 52!) and have many life experiences behind me that (hopefully) help me make better choices than I did in days gone by. The second is that I read and write historicals and love looking at and learning about the things our forebears used.

  8. Well, I want to say both.
    LOL
Because I'm a late-in-life mom (hey, I wrote a book on the topic!), some would say I'm a weathered antique. But others say my caboose kiddo keeps me young. There are days I doubt that.
    Age: It's an attitude. Truly.
So I'm a springy weathered antique who is sometimes a chicken.
    ;o)

  9. Hmm, I'd lean more toward spring chicken because, as my grandma says, age is all a state of mind. :)

  10. gosh that's a hard one. when i make purchases, i value both. brand new is nice, there's no flaws, dings or scratches - and i know i'm the first to ever own it. but the weathered antiques have equal value - they're sturdy (they have to be in order to hang around so long) and their many flaws give them great charm and character. so my answer is BOTH!

  11. Weathered antique. More wisdom and grace there, if they've allowed the Lord to grow them.

Spring chickens are cute and perky, though--good for entertainment!

  12. i love the weathered antique-look. especially if it's something handed down to me that has sentimental value. something new and shiny can also have sentimental value, like when my husband gave me a hearts on fire diamond necklace for my first mother's day. but i think about how special it will be to hand down that necklace to my daughter when she becomes a mother, though still shiny and beautiful--but more of an antique in sentimentality. so it's the association i place on something rather than the item itself, i guess.

  13. I love both. One of my hobbies is visiting antique stores/malls. Yet, I wouldn't trade modern conveniences for things like iceboxes or coal stoves.

  14. Weather antique! The spring chicken may end up in a stewing pot~

  15. Interesting! As far as my writing CAREER goes, I feel like a spring chicken, just starting out with lots ahead of me, God willing! But as far as the time spent to finally make it to the status of 'published author', now I'm definitely a weathered=antique!! thing about antiques though is that on first glance they can often seem useless and of no worth. Only on closer inspection do we discover their true value, and sometimes we find a diamond hiding under a crust of muck.
