Moving Thoughts Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

I confess, I like the fact my name is in a song. I sing to it (loudly) whenever it comes on the radio. Now who wouldn’t be flattered by lyrics from "The Boss" like these: “Wendy let me in. I wanna be your friend. I want to guard your dreams and visions…Together Wendy we’ll live with the sadness. I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul. Someday girl, I don’t know when, we’re gonna get to that place where we really want to go and we’ll walk in the sun. But ‘til then, tramps like us, baby we were born to run.”

Is your name in a song? Or have you ever been serenaded?

  1. Um, yes...Lou Bega's Mambo #5
"A little bit of Jessica here I am, a little bit of you makes me your man" So. Proud.

I have been serenaded. Once on VDay my sophomore year in high school, my boyfriend sang our "song" to me down the hall as he presented me with roses. It was "When I See You Smile" by Bad English. His singing abilities were Bad English too. It was sweet, but part of me wanted to slip into the locker, back when I fit in one, and shut the door. lol

And my husband, who sings like an angel, wrote and sang to me at our wedding. Mucho better! I did not want to hide, I wanted to blow off the reception and head to the honeymoon suite. ;)

  2. My friends CONSTANTLY sing Tommy Tutone's "Jenny Jenny 8675309" to me.
That's kind of like being serenaded...

  3. I don't really know the song, but my name is in a popular old rock song...might be the title.

When I was a waitress in high school, my manager used to get on the microphone that called back to the kitchen and sang that song. So if that's considered a serenade, then yes, I've been serenaded. Yikes, I just realized what a sad life I live, LOL.

  4. Come on Eileen bum bum bum.

Yeah, it brings a smile to my face everytime I hear it though I'm not sure I like the words necessarily.

  5. Yes, but it wasn't a very good song, so I was teased about it a lot as a kid.

  6. My first and very long-time boyfriend's name was Jesse and "Jessie's Girl" was dedicated to me a time or two...I always laugh when I hear that song!

  7. My friend's dad used to sing, "Julie, Julie, Julie. Do you love me?" I didn't know it was an actual song until many years later when I heard someone playing it on an old record.

  8. my name is not in a song, but i've been serenaded by the love of my life. he does this pretty often!

  9. My name is in Lou Bega's Mambo No. 5

I do get the occasional serenade from my's hilarious and sweet.

  10. LOL...Erica... that Mambo No. 5 song sure is catchy. Whose name *isn't* in that one, anyway? :P

My name is in the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann" except it's not the right middle name.

Wendy, I LOVE that Springsteen song! The part where he sings your name is my favorite (crescendo?) part of the whole song. You can't not sing loudly when it comes on!

  11. I'm not sure.....Katie? Is Katie a name in a song?

You know that song, "Come on Eileen"? There was this kid a class above me in high school. His name was Ali. Poor kid. Every time I saw him in the hallway, I'd sing "Come on Ali" to him. He was a good sport. And I'm weird.

  12. Oh, yes, there is a Christmas carol called Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella. How fun is that? I could bring my hair for a torch!!

My husband sang to me at our wedding, Dulcinea, from Man of LaMancha. No dry eyes in the room.

I love the name Wendy. It's so melodic.

    Happy Weekend, Wondrous Wendy!

  13. Hmmm, I don't know of any song with "Lindsay" in it.

I've been serenaded a few times. My husband sang to me when he proposed and then again at our wedding. He isn't really a singer (I am! He plays clarinet.), but he knows I like his voice. So sweet!

Ironically, I did something for him at our wedding too. I arranged with our groomsmen to put on a little Star Wars show. One of our friends dressed like Darth Vader and came out onto the dance floor. The other guys wore Storm Trooper masks and took me hostage (of course, I screamed for my husband to save me, save me!). He had to fight with a light saber for my freedom.

Yeah, I totally went off track with that one.

    Happy Friday!

  14. I don't know of any songs with my name them, but I'm not a huge music fan, so there could be one I don't know about. When we were dating, my hubby serenaded me with the Beach Boy's song, "You're So Good to Me." He thought it a good fit because of the lines, "You're kinda small, and you're such a doll." =)

  15. The closest for me is Sting's "Roxanne," and I've had it sung to me a few times with my name. But even though it made me laugh, it's not exactly romantic to hear "Walk the streets for money--you don't care if it's wrong or right!" :-)

  16. 8-6-7-5-3-0h-ni-ee-yine....Jenny I've got your number, I wanna make you mine...

Yep. My name's in a song.

  17. Wendy:
My name is in TWO songs. During World War 2 the song was "Does you mother know you're out, Cecelia? Does she know, I'm gonna steal ya?" I'm not sure of the rest.

In the late 1960's Simon and Garfunkel sang one that I THOROUGHLY dislike because the verse has the girl being very promiscuous.

No one knows how embarrassed I was to hear the WW2 song as I grew up. A few people have heard from me that I don't like the Simon and Garfunkel song and because of that I don't like them.

  18. Happy Birthday, Wendy! I gave you a little shout-out on my blog today. :)

I don't think my name is in a song, but at my childhood church we used to sing "in my heart there rings a melody", and everyone would look at me.

  19. I wish my name was in a song. But my husband seranades me a lot. He'll change up the words so it describes me:) I had never really been seranaded until I met him, didn't know what I was missing!

  20. Happy Birthday, Wendy!

"Once in love with Amy, always in love with Amy..." My parents always used to sing that one to me. :)

  21. Yes, my name is in a song, "I'll take you home again, Kathleen" however, the booger doesn't until she is six feet under ~ such a sad, sad Irish song ~ I wouldn't necessarily call it a lullaby! but... I love it, because it is "my song."
