One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Just within grasp or clinging too tightly?

  1. Just within grasp - I had many years of clingy too tightly to my dreams. I'm getting better at letting go and giving things to God (although the control freak in me still struggles with this).

  2. Most of the time, just within grasp. I don't know how to give up, so I just continue to reach and change and shift and then inch my fingers just a little bit higher.

  3. Within grasp, I think. I hate the thought of clinging--I like the idea that with everything, we are so close.

  4. Just within grasp. Of my dreams, of God's plan unfolding in our lives, of health and prosperity.

    Thanks for asking!

  5. Maybe I should change the question to:

Clinging tightly or just within grasp?

I think the too might be a turn off.

    Thoughts?

  6. Clinging tightly? Depends on what it is! Love of the Lord, His promises, my gift of faith, His Word, my family and friends, etc. etc. A hearty YES!! By 'just within grasp' I think you might mean 'holding lightly' as opposed to 'clinging tightly'. Have learned well over the years and still learning to simply 'let go' of personal belongings, yes, even sentimental things, expectations of self and others, some people to allow the Lord to work on them, personal vanities, wrong teachings of childhood, etc.

Now I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly LOL!!

  7. Karin,

Your answer makes sense so I think you got the meaning. I ask questions like this on purpose just to poke brains a little.

I actually meant to juxtaposition two varying stages one might find themselves experiencing. I wanted to put a twist on the question.

I have my reasons for why I worded it the way I did. Thanks for answering. I see wisdom in your answer. I think you understood more than you might realize.

  8. I feel a lot of things are just in grasp. Can't wait to see what shakes loose first. :O)

  9. Clinging too tightly! You can loosen your grasp, but you can't necessarily get what's just out of reach.

    Cool pictures and GREAT QUESTION!

  10. I'm going with just within grasp. If I'm clinging too tightly that implies what I'm working toward is a waste of time. I refuse to believe that.

  11. Clinging too tightly all too often, unless it's my faith, which I should cling to and sometimes feel that it's just within my grasp...These two are probably directly related.

Love these questions, and I am always eager to see what amazing photos you find for Fridays. :)

  12. Clinging too tightly.

This is the realization I came to this last weekend. With my writing I have a dream to be published. And I was becoming obsessed. I was clinging too tightly and I have to get back to just within grasp. Because when I keep reaching, I keep learning and I keep desiring to learn. God knows the right time and I think He knocked me on my bum about that.

Thanks for the question today- it was good for me. :)

  13. I constantly waffle back and forth. Let go. Just within my grasp....oh, so I better hold on tightly!! But then I need to let go....and then...

    Do you see a pattern?

  14. Depends on what it is. God? Clinging tightly. Everything else? Just within grasp. For me (but I might be misunderstanding you), clinging tightly means reliance on. And if you do that with anything other than God, it isn't healthy.

  15. Just withing grasp! i have definitely learned that clinging too tightly makes it difficult to let go (with the exception of clinging on VERY tightly to God's grace and love) I chose just withing grasp because i have the option of letting go or holding on tighter, it also makes things a little more realistic for me. I like this question...thanks for posting!!

  16. I use to cling tightly, but the rope burn hurt too much. I find it easier to hold on loosely but don't let go. OK now I have that song in my head. But it's a good song so thank you!

  17. Just within grasp. I've been clinging tightly the last few months, and God just told me to let go. Well, He's been telling me for a while, but I finally listened. The great thing? No more rope burn.

  18. Clinging tightly to the Lord, just within grasp of the goals He's placed before me.

*Thanks for the comment over @ Life Lessons -
I appreciate the compliment on the picture! Must say it was a bit surreal to be sitting down with a published author I've followed for about a year! Blogging/writing sure does open up the possibilities! Have a great weekend & God bless!

  19. Wendy, I love how you make me think and take me beyond my comfort zone. What a blessing you are. Because of you, I'm a better person.

By nature I cling too tightly. God's been working on me, and I've learned to loosen my grip and leave things in His capable hands. Therefore, I like to think I can honestly say "just within grasp," as I wait to see what He has in store for me. Well, I can say that today . . . at this moment in time. I'm a work-in-progress who takes steps forward but also back. =)

  20. I tend to cling too tightly when it comes to writing dreams. Right now, I'm feeling more just within grasp. It's all the Lord's doing. I'm very thankful!

  21. Hi Wendy,

I'm clinging tightly to the Lord.

    God bless you

  23. Hi Wendy -

I'm hanging onto the Lord for dear life. This writing journey isn't easy.

  24. Okay six months ago it would have been clinging with all my might to what is comfortable and "safe". But, now I can say "just within my grasp", keeping it real. Life is going to change especially if God is involved, right? That goes for writing too...learning to let God be God in my writing life as well.

  25. Clinging tightly to my faith, my family, my friends...
Just within my grasp are my dreams for the future: starting a family and writing.

  26. Lately I've felt like my publication ambitions are just within my grasp, but that may because I haven't had a project to query in awhile and the rejection reality has worn off. I guess it's good to go into the query process with a healthy amount of hope and confidence, as long as I keep the perspective that God is in control. He knows the right timing for this for me -- when and if I'm ready. That encourages me and takes the pressure off.

  27. Clinging tightly to Jesus. All else, grasping lightly. I read a book for a class in college that recommended this approach. The author closed the book with that thought. At 18, I didn't understand it. But now I do. I attended a support group that taught the adage, "Let go and Let God." It took a while but it finally sank in.

  28. Just within grasp. I am not a clingy person. And I like things to reach for.

  29. I always love your questions! Clinging tightly to Jesus! He's the Way, Truth, and the Life, and I need to keep saying that in the rush of things!

LOVE being back at this place! It's been WAY too long. Great audience, Wendy. Of course I'm not surprised!

  30. Just within grasp! It seems like everything in my life right now is almost reachable, but not quite there yet. I think this is the best place to be! Looking forward to the future and enjoying the present.
