One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Who is this man?

    What a great picture!

  2. He's an old pirate, softened by time yet hardened by the sea. Secretly, he's wealthy but publicly he must hide behind a mask of poverty to protect himself from the law. Only he never anticipated meeting the young woman who is convinced he is her grandfather ... will she break through his facade to the real man beneath?

  3. It's the age of industry and he's a man searching for a pub along London's darkened streets.

  4. HOW fun!!! Wendy, love your blog.

Is it someone playing a character in a Dickens' film? I don't know why it reminds me of a washed-up, repentant Scrooge.

  5. One of God's children.

    My brother in Christ.

Someone who needs a hand, a listening ear.

A man full of stories to share.

  6. Oh, Wendy. Oh. Dear.

This is my brother, broken by many years of drug and alcohol abuse. He realizes he's wasted his life, and silently grieves. But he refuses to listen to the hope held out to him in the Gospel of Jesus.

I love him. I ache for him. I want to reach him. He won't listen to me. In his mind, I'm still his baby sister.

Will you go speak to him? This could be your brother or uncle or neighbor. Will you pray that God send someone to him, someone he'll listen to? His time may run out.

    I weep.

  7. A man who's still willing to take on a brawl at the pub when someone's being rude and obnoxious and smiles warmly with open arms when he sees his young granddaughter. And he loves to tell her stories, all true, but she doesn't know that yet.

  10. I was going to say Santa Clause, but someone beat me to it. Oh well.

  11. He's a man with a life lived, completely, both well lived and not. His face has many stories to tell, most definitely!

  12. My mind went blank when I first saw this picture, but then it hit me...

He's Heidi's grandpa (from the book and movie).

  13. A child of God. Someone who's filled with light, but may not remember it.

  14. ok so here's my first thought--he looks like an actor who I can't remember his name! Then I read some of the other answers and realized I wasn't thinking deep enough. Does that tell you who I am??LOL

  15. He is a man whose dreams have turned into disillusions; who struggles to remember triumphs and heartbreaks, friends and foes, and memories that have left him nearly broken. He is a man who would like respect and has retained enough dignity to wear a hat.

  16. I think this is your best one yet! There is a lot of emotion in his face and it makes me not want to limit who or what he is or could be. Good one to ponder. :O)

  17. A sad soul, filled with flickering shame and resentment. A tired wanderer searching desperately for a new way.

  18. This is Trevor Ballantine...international jewel thief. He's seen here, heavily disquised, as he cases his next target...the Jewel House in the Tower of London.

I answered the way I did because that's where my imagination took me. Nothing is as it seems.

  19. He's Scrooge's older brother.

  20. I love what Jaime says....and this is total fun. Who is this man? He's a man who lived hard...went after what he wanted at the expense of his family. stepped on people to get what he wanted...now...rich in material goods....he finds himself lonely, alienated from family, without friends and wondering why he spent his life running after things that had no real 'value.' The coldness of his money can't keep his heart warm....

Hey Wendy...got the book and started to read. Thank you sooo much. Sarah

  21. He's one of the least of these, our brother. Christ told us to care for him, love him, teach him and see that he gets the care he needs-medical and spiritual.

  22. This man is Russian. Wondering how he has gone from the man he was 40 years ago; powerful and strong, to the man he is today; alone and weak.
