Moving Thoughts Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

You read it years ago, a book, a quote, brilliant advice...It’s still with you.

  1. A book...it usually takes at least 80,000 words to be etched in my brain. :)

  2. The first thing that comes to my mind is the counsel God gave to Joshua: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid." I need that reminder often.

  3. The Mark of the Lion Series by Francine Rivers. I think about Hadassah all the time - especially in the world we live in now. She left a mark on my spirit.

  4. A biography of J. Hudson Taylor. He kept a framed embroidery on his wall that said Ebenezer-Jehovah-Jireh. Hitherto hath the Lord helped us; the Lord will provide.

  5. I foound Deuteronmy 30:19"This day I call heaven and earthas witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessigs and curse. NOW CHOOSE LIFE, so that you and your children may live...."

I found this passage during a very hard time in my marriage. I have tried to remember the words I capitalized even today.

  6. I love poems, but one of the ones that stuck with me is one I made myself memorize in college. It's Amelia Earheart's "Courage." Starts out, "Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not knows no release from little things..."

And it ends "How can life grant us boon of living--compensate For dull gray ugliness and pregnant hate, unless we dare the soul's dominion? Each time we make a choice, We pay, with courage to behold the resistless day And count it fair."

I'm sure I capitalized/punctuated it wrong. But I love it. And I love that she wrote it.
