Moving Thoughts Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Dream so big you are a speck inside the dream or dream small enough you are a giant inside the dream?

  1. Hi Wendy. I haven't thought about an answer to this question yet, but I just wanted to comment and say that I love scrolling through all the pictures you post on Fridays. I play my own little guessing game before I get to your actual question and based on your pictures I try to guess what it is. You surprise me every time.

If I might dare to ask YOU a question on your question day... how the heck long does it take you to find all these neat pics?

  2. Ahhhh! Tricky question, Wendy. I think I lean toward dreaming big so I'm a speck. I like to think of God's entire intricate plan in the world, and how I'm an important part...even if I am just a speck! ;)

  3. I've always been short, so being a giant would be an exciting change of pace. Though I'd probably want some Alice in Wonderland-style cakes or drinks to make me small again!

  4. Hm, I don't really like the idea of being a speck because I want to be significant to the dream. So I'll dream smaller and be the giant ... Happy Friday :)

  5. I like to dream so big I'm a speck, that way when dreams come true I know it was only by the grace of God it happened. :)

  6. So big I'm a speck, that way I leave room for God to work within it!

  7. Dream BIG and I'm but a speck. Sometimes I feel that's exactly what I am--a speck--in God' vast universe.

  8. I'm a speck in my BIG dream. Like many of us, I dreamed of seeing my book on the shelf. That dream is coming true this July, but my book will be one of thousands released that month. I'm a mere speck in in the publishing world, but I'm a very happy speck. =)

So, dear Wendy, what's your dream? Knowing you, it's big, bright, and beautiful.

  9. I tend to keep the dreams small, then I'm surprised when God makes it big.

  10. I just had to read your past week to catch up - love your conference interaction one, ha. That curry was, well, wow. Not sure how I felt about it. Anywho...on to today's question. I always dream big. Sometimes to my detriment. But once in a while, as the past year has proved, those dreams do come true. I believe that dreams and hope go hand in hand, along with a healthy dose of prayer and the faith that God knows what is best for us, has a plan for our lives and will see it through to completion. Have an awesome weekend, Wendy!

  11. A speck. Definitely a speck. I've always dreamed way too big! Great question, Wendy!

  12. I'm a big dreamer, so I want to dream big to be a speck, so I can see the amazing work of God's hand. That way it's all about Him.

  13. I dream so big I am a speck. A happy speck! :O)

  14. I dream big, but often times, I'm afraid to admit my dreams to anyone or even fully to myself - because I know these dreams I dream are impossible. Which is maybe why God gives me the dreams. Because they are impossible. So if ever any of them come true, I know who's responsible.

  15. Cool feedback, Barb. I almost always have pictures in my head that I hope to convey my point, so I go searching for images close to what's already in my mind. Thankfully, it usually takes under a half hour. Great question.

And Keli, yes, my dreams are big, but I'm a speck. Though I have found this varies according to the dream (I have many...but of course). :D

Thanks for offering your thoughts on this. I enjoyed asking this one and I've loved reading your comments!

  16. Good question. And I just don't know! I'll need to give this some thought. :)

    Happy weekend!

  17. Dream so big I'm a speck ...

It goes with one of my favorite quotes: "Anything that I've ever done that was ultimately worthwhile ... initially scared me to death." Betty Bender.

  18. Love this question! Definitely dream big and I'm a speck. Everything always feels so wondrously big in my dreams and I like a gigantic place so I can explore :)

  19. I like to dream so big it makes me look small. When my dream is so big it overwhelms me, I know it came from God, because He is big!

  20. Big, big, big! Being the super-star in my own dreams sounds kind of boring -- and limited. Besides, I never want to forget that I am dust.

(I really love this question, btw.)

  21. dream big, for sure. i love the picture of the trees looking up into the canopy. that's what the trees look like where i live, and i love standing under them, towering over me, and love that feeling of awe that comes from my feeling of insignificance. hmm..not sure that's the best explanation, but it was off the cuff! :)

  22. Wendy, what a wonderful person.

I've often reflected on my rather unusual size--I'm quite petite, and often taken for the fourth graders I teach. :-) A friend suggested that God made me small for a reason: to note the grace and wonder of the little things in life, and notate them. I think she might be right.

So, I'm a small speck in a big dream. It's overwhelming sometimes, but I'm used to it by now.

God bless you in your writing endeavors.

  23. Hmm, very interesting. I think I want to be the giant. But then, maybe my dream is too small?

  24. Hi Wendy,

I remember visiting NYC for the first time, 20 years ago and settled in a room on the 39th floor of a Holiday Inn. I felt very small and insignificant. Other times of feeling that way, it's almost paralyzing. I think for me, dreaming so that I am big in the dream is more comfortable. Other times in my sleeping dreams, I am trying to feed hungry orphans in situations where I have nothing to feed them. It's too big. I do like your pic of the woman climbing up the coffee cup...so cute.

  25. Oh, I love big dreams!! The more inpossible, the better. Like, winning a million people into God's kingdom, speaking at writer's conferences, etc. One of my biggies came true yesterda, when I was offered a book contract!!! Woo-hoo!!!
