Great Wall Perspective

The Great Wall of China took over 1,700 years to build.

Crazy, huh?

Just offering a little perspective for you today.

Got any perspective shedding facts to share?

**Blogger comments are still jacked. I can’t comment everywhere I want to and people are still cool to leave their comments in my email inbox and elsewhere. Oi. It’s messing with my favorite part of blogging…the connecting! But, I’m brainstorming and the storms inside my brain are really quite something. :D

  1. Um...wow. That is def. perspective. I had NO clue that was how long it took. Crazy!

  2. Fear of rejection doesn't leave once a writer receives a book contract. In fact, there's a bit of protectiveness that goes along with not being published--your work is not out there for public viewing.

Last night I completed the final edits on my debut novel, Lakeside Reunion, that's scheduled to be released in November. This was it. No turning back. The story I spent years fine tuning is going to be in the hands of readers before the year is out. Humbling and fearful at the same time. Yet, I had to release that fear to God because He did not give me that gift to be fearful of it. He gave it to me to touch readers' hearts. I'm not sure what kind of favorability my novel will receive--I hope great--but I'm confident that I wrote for an Audience of One.

I'm not sure if that's the kind of perspective you're looking for today, but that's what's on my humbled heart this morning. :)

  3. Yo woman! That is crazy. I have no facts to share. Other than to say great things take a long time.

  4. This is another confirmation for me to slow down and not expect everything so fast.

  6. You can also see that same Wall from space. And it's been standing for a long, long time.

    Encouraging, no?

  8. I love the Great Wall. It's beautiful and definitely a wonder of the world. At the same time, it's sad to think of all the thousands of people who died in slave labor building it. That probably wasn't the encouraging insight you were looking for, though! Sorry, Wendy. I guess it's also true that great things take sacrifice. :)

(Also, just to set the record straight, you can definitely see the Great Wall from an airplane, but the thing about seeing it from space is a myth. Today I'm a myth-buster! Lol!)

  9. Perspective is important. Sometimes I can get so focused on the bricks of my story I forget to take a look at the wall I'm building.

  10. Whoa. I never realized it was THAT huge and it took THAT long to build. I know it's the GREAT wall of China, but maybe it should be called the SERIOUSLY-FREAKIN-GINORMOUS wall of China. Just saying...

  12. 1700 years? Wow! The Great Wall is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit. Maybe we should plan a trip there, just so we can say, "See? Our wait isn't all that bad." :)

  13. That's almost unreal. 1700 years, I'm trying to fathom that.

Okay, let's see if it lets me post today. It didn't yesterday.

  15. WOW! I knew it took a long time to build...I figured a couple hundred years. I was only off by oh 1500.

Impressive. I wonder what the guys on year 1000 were thinking.
    Why are we doing this?
    It will never be finished.
Who thought up this dang idea?

Glad they built it, it is impressive.

  16. Wow. Well, it takes me about one day to finish off a box of chocolates. :P

  18. can I use these pics for our "virtual travel" geography tour this summer? China is on the list-
I've got nothin at the moment as far as facts-

  19. My Sunday School teacher reminds us that we live with a 'fast food' mentality- "I want it and I want it NOW."

I can't fathom something taking over a century and a half to build.

Thanks for sharing this piece of information.
