Moving Thoughts Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It’s my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

You’ve been turned into a Jack-in-the-box (or Jill-in-the-box). What’s the one thing you say every time you pop out?

Bonus question: What music plays when the crank is turned?

  1. I would repeat, "This, too, shall pass." My mom instilled that in me, and it's carried me through lots of hard times.

Or maybe I'd repeat, "Wash your hands." Cuz I'm a nurse, and you know how dirty those crank handles can be.

The first music that popped into my head wasn't something cool like Amazing Grace. It was "The Entertainer." Maybe because when I started to take piano lessons right after I was married, learning to play that was my goal.

  2. "Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ."
If I knew my hymns better I'd say one that went along more perfectly with that theme, but...can't help it, I love "Washed In The Blood of the Lamb." ;)

  3. "For we know that all things work together for good, for those who love Christ and are called according to His purpose".

When I became a Christian, 34 years ago, someone told me to choose a life verse (not that all verses aren't good). He said to have one particular one always handy, so that you could run to it in your mind at will.

I chose that verse and continue to "run it through my mind". I need the reminder, constantly, that yes...God DOES cause all things to work together for good, etc. "Good" isn't necessarily what I want, but it is what God knows is good...and that's what I need to rely on.

I don't have one particular song...but Christian worship songs in general always surround my thinking. OH. And at times some "oldies but goodies...from the 70's and 80's.

    :)

  4. Fun question Wendy! I couldn't think of anything for a while and then it occurred to me that the only thing I hear myself repeating over and over (to my children, of course) is "You need to obey."

As for a song, I'm obsessed with "Yahweh".

  5. Your answers are all quite holy. Hard question, eh? DH gave me permission to share what he’d do as opposed to say. He said he’d pop out giving the finger because he’d be stuck in a box. (Yes, he's a Christian.) Lovely, huh? See, this is why I love asking questions like this—the diverse answers I get!

  6. I'd say, "Where are you taking me for dinner?" then laugh to the ceiling. The song playing would be, "I love to laugh" from Mary Poppins.

  7. Surrender!!!!!

This has been what God is continuously replaying on my broken tape player in my head. When I surrender, I find freedom. Unfortunately, it does not come naturally. I would have to say for music, "The Revelation Song", just because who does not enjoy that beautiful song?

Now I can hear that music in my head!

  9. Howdy-doody!

Ummm....maybe not. I might punch me in the face.

How about - Smile! Jesus loves you.

    Hmmm....

    I don't think I'd be a very good Jack-in-the-box Wendy.

  10. This seems funny to post so late in the day, but the first thing that came to mind is, "Good morning!"

I had morning duty at school this week and although it's a pain to have to be on duty earlier, I love the chance to greet each child in the school with a smile and a good morning wish.

  11. How about "Lighten up" with a big smile, of course, or maybe a bizzare knock-knock joke, like my son tells, which never makes sense but makes us laugh!

  12. I'm going with "I love you." I think people's days would be better if they heard those words at least once. They're the words I say to my hubby when he leans over the bed and kisses me goodbye each morning before leaving for work and the words I say to him when he hugs me good night. They're definitely my three favorite words.

The music playing would be "I Love You a Bushel and Peck." That's the ditty I sang to our daughter for years when I tucked her in bed each night.

  13. Keli, yours is such a good thought. But Tana, I think I have to imitate yours. :-) Or maybe I'll make mine "Thank you" to remind me to be grateful for everything.
