One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It's my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Is what you see what you get?

  1. Hmm, I'll assume your asking that question about me, and I would say not always but I'm working on it. :)

  2. Yes... and no. You can trust your eyes to see what is front of you. But you can trust your heart to tells you when there is something more to be known.

  3. intriguing question! Sometimes I do get what I see, but that's not always best. I would have to agree with Tabitha. Some of the most beautiful and truth-filled things are unseen and are more worthy of "getting".

  4. No, not always. Especially with people-- I try to dig deeper and find the real gem beneath.

  5. With me? No, not always. I tend to keep a lot to myself unless I've known you a long time because I'm shy.

    PS.
"Clearly the person two comments above had a lot to say about this"

That comment on my blog has given me the giggles and now my hubby is giving me strange looks. LOL

  6. No. No. And NO. I walk by faith, not by sight. If I went by what I saw, I'd be crying and giving up, thinking I'm too old, not famous enough, and not mature enough to publish books. Instead, I choose to believe that all things are possible with God, I can do whatever He's calling me to do, and He loves to surprise the masses by using unlikely people to accomplish great things. So there.

  7. nope. He gives me so much more than what I see. I'm so limited in my perception and so many times I thought something and would have ignored it except....for Him...His ways and thoughts are so much higher. love the questions and the dog with the goggles...very cool

  8. No. Often I'm surprised by how much more there is to something or someone than what meets the eye. For instance, I knew from visiting your blog that you are a lovely young woman with a quest to know more about life. However, when I met you in person at the conference I was blown away by the depths of your personality. You are insightful, delightful, and a real encourager. Plus, you have a dazzling smile and beautiful spirit. I was blessed by you many times over during our time together.

  9. When learning to draw, I was taught not to draw what I see but what I know. Sure, I can look at an ear and sketch what's in front of me, but it will look more real and convincing if I understand all the parts of the ear and how it is structured, so that when I am seeing an ear for the first time, I already know what to expect. I can liken this to God. His word tells us all the truths we need to know about Him so that when we are faced with new situations, we can still trust that what we know of God will hold up. Our eyes cannot teach us more than what they see. Only learning and wisdom can.

  10. Yeah, I'm sneaking out of the cave. JUST HAD TO, with those photos!

No, what you see is NOT what you get. There's a whole spiritual battle out there, girl.

    EVERYTHING matters.

To one cool, beautiful, fun girl.
    You so bless me.

  11. No, generally there's more to people than you'd think. Nobody is a stereotype.

  12. I don't believe in my heart "what you see is what you get", yet I find I have bought the hierarchal view the world has sold me. I want to see the world through a different filter.

  13. Nope. It can't be. The outside is just casing, ya know?

  14. Never! And I hope to never let it be. Especially when meeting people. I loved meeting people last weekend - a perfect example of how much deeper people are than just what you get on a blog, or by email, or by tweets.

    Love you!!

  15. Only in so far as the Spirit has opened your eyes. He who has ears, let him hear!
I was reading the book of Revelation this morning.

  16. No, because some things are by faith only. But me, I'm a WIP, so better things are yet to come? lol...

  17. Those who have told me they put their cards on the table are the ones who have embodied deception. Sometimes, though, what we see is what we're going to get. If someone looks as though they are carrying a heavy burden, they probably are. Sometimes life, love, joy, and sorrow cannot be disguised.

  18. Yes, in the sense that we find what we look for.

If we search out every flaw in others and keep a list of what's missing in our lives, we turn sour. No surprise, we get more of the same and feel cheated by God.

If we focus on what's good in other people and in our lives, we draw others to us and rejoice over what we have. Our joy increases, we feel blessed and give thanks.

Every day we get to choose how we "see."

  19. Wendy, Such an intriguing question...

I think I/people look at the surface but am so thankful God looks at the heart. Some of my first impressions are so often wrong. For example, when I met you at conference, I thought you were about 25 and a real seeker without much writing experience. But in 5 minutes or less you proved me wrong! You humbly asked me about my writing journey yet I sat and learned so very much from your own! You are light years ahead of me in many, many respects. I only wish I'd been in your shoes when I was younger and writing my heart out like you are!

God bless you and your beautiful blog:)

  20. It depends on your perspective! I'm too filled with hope to even mess around with scepticism. I'll take what I can get though. ;)

    word ver; option...

  21. Thank Heavens no!

Man looks at the outward appearance, but God knows the heart. For starters, some of the most hurting people in the world are some of the most mysterious.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Never! There's always so much hidden treasure waiting to be discovered—between the lines, beyond the pain, behind the face.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes.

Perception becomes reality. Perceive a trial and the spirit burdens. Perceive a learning experience and the spirit endures.

    That's my take. Great question!

  24. For me, yes and no. I'm a work in progress:) For others, I suspect the same is true, mostly.
    Have a great weekend,
    Karen

  25. Never- how funny that everyone's answers are different. So rarely are things as they appear. I never know- I always have to intentionally pursue truth.
