Lazy Eights

Every Wednesday I give you a list of eight. This Wednesday I’m revealing eight of my favorite ways to spend time during the lazy days of summer…

swinging on a hammock

sipping sweet tea

being on water (floating on a raft, kayaking, speeding in a boat)

camping out under the stars

watching fireflies light up the backyard

working on a multihued crossword puzzle

reading enthralling novels

listening to outdoor music

What do you do to enjoy the lazy days of summer?

  1. Gardening, the beach, reading, visiting friends... :O)

  2. Laying on my chaise lounge on an empty beach, feeling the sun warm me inside out and being lulled into peaceful moments by the waves.

  3. Reading on the beach, sleeping on the beach, eating on the beach. LOL!

I also love BBQs with friends and sitting outside at night with candles lit, sipping a glass of wine. *sigh* Is it summer yet?

  4. Watching the fireflies at dusk with my kids. It never gets old!

  5. rock climbing, kayaking, swimming with my baby girl, hiking with her daddy, reading a good book in the shade, cookouts with the family, enjoying a good thunderstorm, and falling asleep to the sound of my hubby playing his guitar.

  6. Right across the street from me is the St. Johns River. I like to catch glimpses of it sunrise.

  7. I could pretty much copy and paste Jennifer's answer...ME TOO! :)

P.S. I love fireflies too, though we haven't seen many lately :( Maybe it's not quite warm enough yet.

  8. Picnics, walks, lying in the grass, going to the beach, reading, drawing/painting, hanging out with friends, and video games on the really hot, sticky days.

And on those rare occasions when it's warm out, pouring rain, and no thunder or lightning, I like to go for a walk in it. And barefoot if it's safe to do so.

  9. Although I don't have fireflies or sweet tea, you've totally put me in the mood for summer. I love all of the above plus the beach, watching my children enjoy the swimming pool, free to read for long stretches at a time.

  10. I love camping with my family. Going for late night walks, and BBQing

  11. Longing for winter, LOL.

Reading, playing at parks with the kids, and taking the kids on hikes.

  12. Going to my dad's place in the mountains, reading by the pool and feeling so in tune with God! No distractions, no stress.

  13. Mine are not so lazy as I work year 'round, but on the weekends, I like to stroll down the causeway on the beach and walk my dog. Then go eat an ice cream cone. :) Or just hang out and read a book. Or get together with friends, or......good grief!

  14. Sitting on my patio in the evenings, reading books out there during the day, going to the beach with a good book and yeah, my hubby,

  15. Sitting on my porch with my hubby. Going to the pool with the kids. Making wedding soup. Camping. Reading. Sitting outside at the coffee shop.

  16. I agree with novels and water! Also, staying up late and sleeping in late!

  17. I've never seen a lightning bug before and I've always wanted to. This summer, we're going camping and I'm really looking forward to that. I love looking at the stars. I'm also enjoying the garden and time with my kids :)

  18. Diane, What's the opposite of green? Does green have an opposite? That's the color of my thumb.

    Donna, Waves are hypnotic.

Jennifer, And doesn't laughter sound that much better outside?

Lydia, True. True. It will never get old.

Jaime, I love outdoor music. Does he play outside? And thunderstorms are wild. I swear I could be a storm chaser. Are you one of those parents that plop baby girl in the water and she is a natural swimmer? My kids are on the same level swim class for the 3rd year in a row. I am not one of those parents clearly. ;)

Kathy, Just something about the sun on the water.

Beth, A huge congrats for honorable mention over on Rachelle's blog this past Monday!

Alyssa, Thanks for representing last night. Barefoot. I am hardly ever in shoes this time of year. My husband laughs at the example I set for my kiddos.

    T. Anne, Ahhh. Summer. Am looking forward to some great reads this summer. Did you start Catching Fire yet? My neighbor has it for me to borrow when I'm ready.

Patti, Those evening walks are so relaxing.

Diane, Your a winter bird, huh? Not so much for me.

Lily, I like distractions, no stress. No distractions, no stress. No distractions, no stress. Just wanted to write it a few times to understand what it meant. Foreign words. Can't compute. ;)

Oh Karen, You remind me that our dog has become the red-headed stepchild since we've birthed three children. Poor Samoyed doesn't get walked enough.

Terri, Can't wait to hit the beach. Thank you for your deeply encouraging email today. You moved me!!!

Susan, Love connecting through comments. Wedding soup. Not sure I've had it. Is that the one with many types of beans? I'm intrigued.

God and Ponytails, If that isn't a name for a book right there--Novels and Water by Wendy Paine Miller. ;) :D

Cindy, I'll pray for your missions trip this summer. I'll try to cage a firefly in a ball jam jar, but I'm not sure it will survive until Sept. when I see you. I don't think they light up when they're dead. Wow, getting a little philosophical this response. ;) (Say hello to my little friend--that was for you.)

Well folks. You complete me. Only kidding, but you sure make me smile.

I'm likely going to dream about fireflies tonight. Either that or ants. Tonight, we went to buy new tennis shoes for DD tonight and all over the shoe section of Marshalls there were hundreds of ants. We found some great shoes at Payless. ;)

Dream of fireflies and not ants.
    ~ Wendy

  19. BBQ's with friends, gardening, reading, taking rides in the country, antiquing, and yard saling are my favorite ways to decompress.

    Susan :)

  20. I was just thinking about sweet, summer tea. And, my favs? Summer lightning storms that move through quickly, but with some drama.

  21. I love walking barefoot on freshly mowed grass. Alas. It is winter over here. *sigh*

  22. Ice lots of ice cream...then take lots of walks to burn off the calories. :-)

  23. No schedule. During the school year, my two older kids catch the bus at 6:30am and my youngest at 8:30am. In the summer, we laze around in our jammies all morning, eat pancakes, and relax (plus, I get lots of writing time in!)

  24. I don't think I can top your list, so I'm just stealing yours. And I LOVE that picture of the sweet tea!

  25. Suntea, sunshine, and sunflowers!

  26. Love your blog, Wendy!
    Work in my garden
    Listen to Pandora and read
Walk/run, then add on the calories with friend meetings at coffee house
    Sleep late and sleep early!
Bask in the summer sun and feel like a Southerner again

    You go, girl!

  27. You know, last night the hubby and I sat together on our back porch. The children were in bed, the pup was chewing on a stick in the backyard and there was just enough of a breeze to keep us cool. Life doesn't get much better than that!

  28. I really like your blog! I'm a new author and have enjoyed this new experience. I find that it's the most difficult and most rewarding. I'm also a graphic designer and love having that creative outlet as well.
Thanks for your post! I will be back for more updates. :-)

    Melissa Nielsen

  29. Those are all some of my favorite summer memories! You must live in the south. :)
