One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Ever seen a car with the word Ambassador printed in its side? I have and it always leaves me with a mysterious feeling. Who drives that? Is it simply a car service or is a government representative in there…the questions go on.

Here’s your question: If you could have anything printed on the side of your car to say something about you, what would you have printed?

Me (look, she’s answering this time): I’d go with Word Flinger or maybe I’d get Ambassador on my car after all.

Now your turn…

  1. This is a hard one. I don't usually like stickers or anything on my car except the fish sign. Guess I would have A Follower put on it:)

  2. "Ask me about Grace." - I would love to have a conversation starter printed on the side of my car, because I think the hardest thing about being a Christian is sharing our faith with others. It's something that should be easy, but it's not.

  3. "Forgiven" is the first word that popped in my head. It doesn't matter who we are or what we've done, if we're forgiven we are a Child of the King! And, as His child we are called to be ambassadors of His Kingdom!

  4. Hm, I think I'd put words to inspire others to pursue their own passions, so I'd put, discreetly, in a fashionable way, my favorite motto ... Own it!

  5. Eeek! What a good question! When I was in high school I wrote Jesus Saves all over my shoes, but that's become somewhat cliche and I don't know if it would be effective.
Such a good question. This is something I'd have to think about.

  6. Under Construction. Because it describes my spiritual life, my writing life, my work at the bookstore, my children, my relationships and my home. Constantly building. Never complete.

  7. Oh, MYYY! As I read your question, I whispered, A Follower, then saw Tiffany put that.

At the risk of looking like a plagiarist, I'll stick with it! Hey, stop by my place today. I posted late but really want to share a poem by Mary Oliver called, "Lead" in light of the Gulf oil spill.

On a brighter note, Happy Weekend!

  8. "Administrative Assistant" I was trying to come up with my own job description for the ministry we are in the process of incorporating and I decided 'Administrative Assistant' described what I did very well -- which is EVERYTHING! :-) I think that also describes my life as a servant of Jesus Christ, a wife, a mother and a writer too.

  9. Your question stumped me at first, Wendy. Because my husband is a real car person, the thought of putting anything on the side of my Sport Trac is, well, unthinkable. But, I do have a license plate frame on it that says, "I'd rather be writing."

Since this is only hypothetical, though, I'll play along. :) I would seriously consider putting "Work in Progress" on my door. I like the double meaning. I usually have one going, and I am one.

I think those Smart cars are so cute. I fell in love with them years ago when I saw my first one in Germany. If I were rich, I'd consider having one to use around town. Sure would be a lot easier to park than my truck. :)

  10. I might come back later if I change my mind. But after a moment's thought, I think I like this:

    making my way Home

  11. About me? Hmmm... God's daughter.

  12. Your questios are so thought-provoking.

I think I'd choose Student Driver.

    Why?

    1. People drive more carefully around you.
    2. I'm a lifelong student of history.

  13. Great question! Hmmm... If I were in a grumpy mood I'd want it to say something like, "Don't call me religious" or "Don't tell me I'm a good person." Those are two things I always wish I could tell people, but since we're driving among strangers... "Thank God!"

  14. Oh my gosh! I love these answers. Today, with a big grin on my face, I'd definitely put "My Redeemer Lives!"

  15. "Nutty with a dash of Meat."

That's me, my writing, and my life.

I'm the nut; Jesus is the meat.

I adore those photos of old cars, Wendy!

  16. what a great question!! hmmm..

i think if i could choose something? i'd pick the word PEACE.

    just like that.

we could all use the reminder, i think :D

    great post!

  17. Hummm, I'm going to go for the non-spiritual words. I saw this on a T-shirt. "You may think I'm a wimp, but I raised a Marine." :P

  18. This is a hard one, but I like it!

I think mine would say "Joy and Peace."

With NO peace symbol. :-) I have had to explain to my seven-year-old about five times why the peace symbol is not something our family chooses to wear on clothing. It's hard to explain to a young child that we believe in peace, but we don't support the behavior of many groups who have used that symbol since the 1970s!

  21. I'd put Overcame by the Power of His gentleness. Have an awesome weekened. Sarah

  22. Wendy:
I think I would have either Quiet Spirit (the name of the writing ministry I am trying to have) or Joy Grace Peace (the possible character name I had chosen for myself in our church's Drama Ministry.)

  23. Well, I probably wouldn't paint something on the side of my car. But, if for some reason, there were new rules requiring things to be painted on my car, I would definitely paint stars on it. I love stars. They're meaningful.

  24. After reading all the wonderful answers above, and trying to think about what I would put, I thought about it and decided....I would put nothing. Because I would want people to see by the way I behave and treat others who I am without having to advertise it. I have seen people act horribly behind the wheel only to see they have Christian logos or bumper stickers on their car and I find that...well, sad really.

  25. Hi Wendy,
I love this idea. My first thought was "Good and Faithful Servant, in the making!" Then I thought, well, that would be totally up to Christ I suppose to decide but I am out here doing my best.
I think of you often, knowing these last few months have been rough. Know you have a friend out here holding you in a gentle presence ;-)
    xo

  26. Hi Wendy - thank you for stopping by my blog!
If I HAD to have something printed on my car I think I'd pick "Makiya's Grandma" because I'm so proud of my beautiful granddaughter!
