Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.
It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Hi Wendy! Just found your blog through Kristin's!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...what makes me tick? SO many things. I have to say at the heart of it all...hope, family, friends.
And those rare moments in life that strange coincidences happen...although I feel like those coincidences are more a little "nudging" from above to let me know I'm not alone. Those moments are rare but meaningful.
Oooh, it's not an either/or question today...
ReplyDeleteThe existence around me makes me tick. It's the life, the love, the air, the being around me that makes me want to be.
I don't know. I think maybe Jesus and imagination. My kids. :-)
ReplyDeleteOhh, such a short question but it requires lots of thought. I hesitate to say my faith since it seems like the cliched answer, but when I really think about it, I'm not sure how I'd be ticking without it. And of course, my loved ones and the excitement of getting a story out of my head and onto "paper".
ReplyDeleteHi Wen!
ReplyDeleteAww...I do love this question!! This makes me stop and think if what made me tick during the college years is still what makes me tick...and I would say yes: God, dancing, spontaneous laughter and creating memories, songwriting, serving others, 80s music, coffee (hehe), creating a new outfit from clothes I have had in closet for years, roadtrips, camping, and definitely the joy and comfort that comes from having dear friends (like you!!) and family, that know me inside and out. Thank you for asking this question...Love you, Mel
I so hope that God makes me tick. That's my prayer anyway!
ReplyDeleteProbably my tea with milk. I switched to decaf a while ago -- well, actually, my sister switched me to decaf when she decided I'd become an addict -- but I still like to have a hot drink on hand at all times.
ReplyDeletegreat question. Love how you put the pics with the question. My faith, running, nature, laughing, compassion, passion to make a difference....writing - Have a great weekend. Sarah
ReplyDeleteKnowing that God loves me and has a perfect plan for my life keeps me 'ticking'!! Also the wonderful family and friends He's given me! And I need to include the passion He's given me to write about Him and His awesome truths! Thanks for the thought-provoking question, Wendy! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWendy, you asked a short but powerful question. Wow! I'd say what makes me tick is a desire to enrich the lives of those around me. Not too profound, but that's the best I can do while suffering with the cold my dear hubby shared with me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up to follow my blog..
ReplyDeleteYour question ultimately involves a copmlex answer that delves into our deepest selves. But for the simple answer: When I was a child pleasing my parents problably was my main motivator. Later, impressing or getting the attention of peers becomes important. Now, having my children be proud of their father, and most importantly me trying to honor God and be pleasing to Him. It's all somewhat similar I guess, just stages in growth.
I really like the pictures because they are evocative of dream imagery which is relevant to me since on Fridays of late I've been posting about dreams. Lovely post, provocative question.

My heart. Only it's more of a thu-thump. ;) Haha! Maybe my real answer should be laughing.
ReplyDeleteHard question! I'm so infused with layers I'll have to mull over this for a while.
ReplyDeleteOff the top of mt head I would say- dreams, hopes, desires, love.
Oh, I love clocks! Love them! What makes me tick? I really have no idea, but I'm driven by the idea of improvement. So maybe that?
ReplyDeleteOften it's the tyranny of the urgent that makes me tick. Ideally, it would be the things I value most!
ReplyDeleteGood question. My first response was a plan. Knowing what I am doing and exactly where I'm going makes me tick, keeps me motivated.
ReplyDeletePursuing that choice life ... writing, music, family. The three necessities that keep me ticking along :)
ReplyDeletePeople!
ReplyDeleteMy faith, my family, my friends. Then all of the wonderful things in creation.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me tick? This is a good question. Do you mean in a good way or a bad way?
ReplyDeleteA good way? My husband when he gets all dressed up and fancy. That makes me tick. ;)
A bad way? Having to pee when I don't have the time or motivation to get up and go to the restroom. Or having a piece of food stuck between my teeth all day with no floss or toothpick!
having faith that Im here for a purpose
ReplyDeleteWendy:
ReplyDeleteAs an adult, I have had a heart for people and a heart for God.
Definitely, just knowing that I'm free in Christ, that I am able to have that freedom to be the best, to be loved and to love back, to make decisions for myself and not be controlled or influenced by someone just because I feel obligated to oblige them, but to just be free in Him. Knowing I don't have to be scared, or worried, or fretful - to just trust. That's freedom and that's what makes me tick.

ReplyDeleteJesus does, and the rest falls into place from there. Some days are better than others in that respect:) I confess to be a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
My precious Triune God, who has taught me how to find peace in this world.
ReplyDeleteThat's the short answer!!!
LOVE ALL of your posts, not just Friday.
Patti
Ok so it is not Friday anymore and here I am just getting here, but I hope you don't mind! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me tick? The showing of God in the midst of my chaotic desire to control things. The tight embrace of my husband...just because. The laughter and smiles of my children. The gathering of my family and friends that grows every time we get together. The texts from a friend that make me smile. A book that makes me stop and think as much as it pushes me on to the next page. The sweet smell of spring and the fluttered call of migrating birds...to name a few. :)
Great question, Miss Wendy!
Okay, I just heard the commercial. Wow. Thank you for sharing it.
