An Excellent Book Made Me Smile

I finished Donald Miller’s, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years this weekend. I also held my daughter’s hair back nine times (NINE times—Bueller) all throughout Saturday night and wiped her face. But I finished Miller’s book and despite the lack of sleep and my large intestine now wrestling with my small intestine, I smile. I smile. That is the power of a good book.

The book blends two things I’m in love with: story and life.

It’s good.

Because my large intestine and small intestine are having the battle of the century, I’m going to keep it short today. I intended to post an interview with a stellar author about a noble passion of hers. I’ll leave you in suspense until Wednesday.

  11. Hi Wendy-
Oh Lord, I hope you are feeling better and so is your daughter. I have a horrible fear of the stomach bug, it requires an intervention I am so fearful. I hope you don't catch it!
I gave you a shout out on my blog today (one that requires you to do nothing at all :-) but wanted to let you know).
I'll have to check out the book.
    Feel well.

  20. I do hope you feel better soon. And I must say thanks for your kind comment on my post last week.

I can't believe you just finished A Million Miles. I am reading it right now! I think it's a book that can fool people because the writing is so accessible and Don tells a lot of funny stories. It's deeper than it looks at first glance. The ideas have the potential to be life-changing.

I am thinking about what Don has written, and it's helping me clarify some things about the way I should live.

  22. I loved the book as well! It made me smile inside...caused me to dig deep into my life and ask, "What kind of story am I writing?" (or should I say...am I allowing God to write His story in my life?)I liked Miller's book so much that I ended up getting his first book, "Blue Like Jazz." I'll let you know how it is...if you haven't read it!
    God bless!

  26. Wendy, I'm sorry you're sick, and that you had to hold hair NINE times. That's got to be a record! I hope your illness is just a twenty-four hour thing.

I really liked Don Miller's Blue Like Jazz. In heaven, where all these great books will be filed by the hundred thousands, we will have time to read them all.
