One Question Friday

Every Friday I’m going to ask a question. The questions I choose might be ambiguous on purpose. The goal is to have you answer the question according to your beliefs, where you’re at in life or a circumstance that might have recently impacted you. The only thing I ask is that you provide an explanation for why you answered the way you did.

It is my hope to understand you better through this and also to gain a greater understanding of humanity and how people make decisions.

Ready for your question?

Fantasy or Reality?

  1. That is too hard, or maybe it is too early. I guess if I have to choose one over the other it would be fantasy. I spend a good deal of my time writing, which puts my mind and thoughts in another time and setting.

  2. Fantasy, because we are grounded in reality no matter what...grounded in this earthly body. And I'm convinced that the point of creating, of imagining what is not but what could be, puts us as close to God as possible.

In creating, we are most like the ultimate Creator.

  3. Reality. Because when I live in fantasy, I get disappointed. Jesus, Heaven, love and goodness are more real than satan, hell, hate and strife.

Although I love fiction books and movies I believe real emotions and truths fuel the best fantasy stories.

  4. Thank you for stopping by my blog and saying hi! Hope we get to know each other better. I love making new Christian women friends, especially those who are writers!

To answer you question, hmmm. I could go either way. At first it was fantasy because I love to escape from reality for times and it gets my muse activated! Then reality because I see all the incredible creation of the Lord. The more I see, the more I want to see.

  5. Reality! In the midst of the challenging realities of life, I look to God. While I can't reach out and touch Him, His reality transcends my human understanding and continues to transform me into the person He created me to be.

  6. This is tough, I'm mostly a reality girl, but I did enjoy the Twilight series and since they've got vampires and werewolves I've got to class that as fantasy even though it read like reality. But I find most fantasies don't read near as reality'sh!

  7. Oh I am such a reality person--almost too much! It's hard for me to even make things up in fiction because of it!
Thank you for your encouragement on my blog today:)

  8. I love fantasy, but I don't think I'd appreciate it as much or have the fuel for developing my fantasy world if I didn't have the real world to draw from!

  9. For me it is reality...or the fantasy that is wrapped up within the reality we live. As a follower of Christ, I find that the closer I draw to Him, the more I find that there is more to life than meets the eye...that things happen that could be labeled as fantasy while they are really real. I love the reality of who He is...and I love watching Him form His love using whatever means possible!! :) Have a blessed day, Miss Wendy...

  10. I would have to say reality. After all I do call myself the "Get Real Girl". I do love to bring dreams and fantasy into my kids lives by focusing on letting them use their imaginations. They will grow up fast enough. I don't have to hurry it along.

  11. Reality. :-) I liked Jeanette's answer.

  12. I like to mix the two. :0) I tried to do that with my last story and I think it worked. The result was pretty cool!

Have a great weekend, Wendy! Hope it's a lot of fun!

  13. Good morning! Okay, well...

Usually reality, but the WIP includes ghosts, but meshed into reality.

Not exactly indicative of what I normally write, but you asked for honesty! As for the why...

Sometimes what is inside just needs to come OUT!

As for August, the novel and novella are separate. I do keep track of the various word counts, as I'm a bit Aspergerish by blood. :)))

Have a most lovely weekend and so many blessing to you!

  14. Reality. Because it drives my craft. Because there is so much truth in our reality, so much feeling and potential. And one can never go wrong with that.

  15. It's all fantasy until I get to heaven. ;)

  16. Thanks for the encouragement about homeschooling. :) I vote for reality, since that's what's, well, real. And the song on your site (U2, All I Want is You) is hubby and my's main song - danced at our wedding to it and still dance to it today!

  17. Fantasy. It's a great escape. Reality is great, too, when everything is going well.

  18. Reality. I love creating characters in the "real" world who overcome some of the same challenges I face. Of course, mine are doing so in the past, since I write historicals. My husband and daughter are the fantasy/science fiction fans in our family, so they make sure I get a taste. :)

Thanks for visiting my personal blog, Joy on the Journey. I have a question for you but can't find an email addy. Plz contact me at keligwyn at keligwyn dot com. Thx.

  19. Reality. There is enough of the unusual and amazing in every day life I don't often find the need to travel anywhere else.

  20. Both because Reality keeps me grounded and Fantasy allows the creative part of me to over flow.

  21. Fantasy...and reality television! :D Have a blessed weekend!

  22. Fantasy...PLEASE. Reality is really rather boring and I'd prefer a world where I could wear fairy wings and practice magic and travel by flu powder!

  23. Fantasy. That's why I go to movies, to escape reality for a while. :O)

  24. That, my friend, is impossible to answer. It's like asking: awake or asleep. I'm entrenched in reality, but I need at least seven hours of fantasy, or otherwise I'm just a complete grouch.

  25. Reality! Althought I love to dream and reflect on those things in my life that aren't, sometimes I get disappointed. I choose to focus on what I can see, although hopeful to embrace what I can't, knowing God is always in control.

  26. I LOVE your music. I have you blog minimized while I work on my outline, just so I can listen to your music!

  27. Yeah. I made it over to your blog while it was still Friday. I love to get lost in a great fantasy story, but my answer is reality, because I'm always glad to come back to my world.

  28. Wendy, I apologize for being so wishy-washy for a second week in a row and answering "both," but as a writer of biblical fiction I really have no choice but to live in a world between reality and fantasy. :D

  29. Good question! I loved so many of the answers that it's almost impossible to choose. But I'd have to say reality. Life is all about choices. I can pull fantasy elements into our reality with creativity and imagination. Reality can often be difficult...but it's all about how you pick yourself up and go on. I think we can always mix a little fantasy into our own lives.

  30. Reality all the way. Sometimes I wish I could live more in fantasy and dreams, but that's just the way I am. Thank you for stopping over at my blog. I hope to see you again!
