Most Memorable TV Moments

Do you ever wonder how much things you watch impact your thoughts? I’ve listed ten of my most memorable TV moments.

Columbine (I had a newborn at the time. I remember thinking, what will schools be like when my children attend?)

Alex P. Keaton Driving all Night to See Ellen (In my early years of puberty I thought this defined romance.)

Fall of the World Trade Towers (I was five months pregnant with my first child. I remember wondering what the world would be like for her.)

Shock and Awe (Our high school staged a walk-out to protest and we all wore yellow ribbons. Bette Midler’s song, “From a Distance” was overplayed on the radio.)

The Loss of the Challenger (I was in fifth grade, band recital, clarinet in hand. When I returned home I saw my mom break down bawling for the first time.)

Richard Hatch Winning (That was the most incensed I’ve ever been over a TV show.)

The Headless Horseman episode (Nothing scared me more than this episode growing up.)

Kevin Kisses Winnie (This was particularly sweet because Kevin and I were about the same age, going through the same growing pains.)

Ross Standing in the Rain (He was her lobster. Ah, to be young and in my 20’s again. No thanks.)

The Hatch is Open (Still my favorite.)

Can you guess some of those shows? What are some of your most memorable TV moments?

**interesting that two of my answers have the word hatch in them…hmmm.

  1. Ha! I love the lobster! And the numbers.

There's this really funny moment in an "Office" episode that scares me silly (just from the shock of the person's facial expression). If I see it, I scream and then laugh for days. One of my participants figured that out and re-enacted it once.

    Scrubs has the same effect.

And anything about LOST makes me very, very happy. :0)

This was a great idea, Wendy! Have a great day!

  2. Wendy, I know this is off topic, but I can't help but be startled by that picture of Michael J. Fox. Something he said had a profound impact on my life, and I just wrote it a few moments ago as a comment on Richard Mabry's post about Perfection:

"I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business." ~ Michael J. Fox

  3. OMG We used to say that all the time "But he's my lobster!"
I loved that moment in television.

I'm partial to the "I can't breath when you look at me like that!" scene from Grey's.

  4. Wendy, before I could click off your website, "Send Me On My Way" began playing. Couldn't resist picking up my 4-yr-old Daniel for a dance through that delightful song. (LOVED that bridge!) Then 8-yr-old Abigail wanted her turn.

My husband keeps saying I need to get on the treadmill once in a while. I can't bring myself to do something so inefficient. I'd argue I just had a much more worthwhile workout!

  5. Hmmm, it was weird for me when I saw the falling of the trade towers. I was eighteen, just started my first "real" job. I didn't comprehend what a horrible thing it was.
I've got lots of fun images floating around, but one scene I love, love is when Cameron kissed House in an older episode. I know, it was just to get something out of his pocket, but I just thought it was SO romantic. :-)
Most of the scenes in my head are the romantic ones. LOL

  6. The falling of the World Trade Towers was probably my most memorable. My kindergartner and second grader watched with me while they ate breakfast. The Oklahoma City bombing and the O.J. Simpson car chase come in as close seconds.

  7. Watching the Trade Towers Fall...wow. I was in London at the time on a study abroad trip in college - that was an incredibly memorable experience.

LOVE LOST! And I loved Friends too...I miss that show SO MUCH. The Office when Jim kisses Pam was pretty huge in our house (my husband and I watch that show as our date night!).

  8. Along with many, the Twin Towers. Then March of 2003 watching the green tinted night vision camera of an embedded reporter in a troop carrier going to war. At that time I stared long hours and many days, wondering if he was with my son.

End of story-he's back safe, some injuries, but God is good and restores.

  9. I remember one episode when Oscar, on Sesame Street, let viewers see what the inside of his trash can looked like.

    I know... Cool, huh?

  10. Kristen, it still seems like we have so long to wait before LOST comes back. Yes, my husband and I enjoy laughing at The Office as well.

Anne, perfection so is God's business, isn't it. Not sure I could touch it with a ten foot pole.

Marybeth, I watched Grey's in the beginning. I'm trying to figure out if that was a Meredith or Izzy comment?

Anne, THOSE are the best kind of workouts. You remind me, I begged my husband to buy a treadmill last winter for the marathon I was going to run, but so didn't early summer. :D That right there is one major thing I've been sacrificing a bit for the writing.

Jessica, romance is good when it's done right, eh? I've never seen HOUSE.

Lazy Writer, you know, I probably could have filled out my whole list w/ news stories (like those you mentioned) but I didn't want to bring people down. I remember the chase though...the white Bronco.

Beth, LOST rocks! Jim cracks me up b/c he sees things so much as they are.

Karen, I can imagine that being a very jarring, nervous feeling, watching the news for you then. I'm thankful he is back safe. I LOVE that our God restores!

Jennifer, you are too funny! I can envision how that might be a supreme episode.

Wish I had lots of funny to bring tonight, but I'm wiped from the new schedule this week and I'm feeling a little down about some things. Such is life. I do think it's pretty funny a fly just landed on my screen and is having fun crawling all over my letters. Very good. Thanks, God. I needed that! :D

Sleep knowing tomorrow is a new day and so shall I.

  11. Love Lost and Friends. I love the quote by Michael J. Fox that Anne L.B. left.

  12. Meredith...season 2 ... the season finale...

  13. I think the World Trade Center will forever be my Kennedy moment--my parents and grandparents can still tell me where they were when they heard the news about JFK. And related to this is a commercial that came out shortly after 9-11. It was the one that said "On 9-11, terrorists tried to change the face of America." And then it cuts to a picture of a street of houses all with American flags flying, and the words, "They did." I cried the first time I saw it.
